challenge

This morning I finished my art for the challenge Vivien and I have been working on. This is where we give each other obscure found objects and challenge ourselves to create with them. This past challenge we both brought the other bottle caps, we must have been reading each others minds that morning... Of course neither one of us remembered to take the before pictures, so just imagine if you will a blue yogurt drink bottle cap and a white water bottle cap. That what we started with and as usual I am amazed at how different the results are. Check out Vivien's here. Funny also that we both tried squishing our caps unsuccessfully. Vivien drove her car over them and hammered at them and I used my husband workbench and vise. Just in case anyone ever wants to flatten a bottle cap - it's nearly impossible! They squish and then bounce back! Ah the power of plastic....I chose to paint my bottle caps red with acrylic paint and use sheer fabrics to show them off. Synthetic iridescent organza, white squiggle painted silk chiffon, painted dryer sheets and red tulle. I was quite stuck on this piece for a while and didn't have it finished in time for our playdate. Thank goodness (or thank goddess I should say) Vivien suggested that I needed more red to frame it some way. So the red tulle and Vivien saved the day. I decided to name this piece Zabava/Забава which means Amusement. Because it was amusing to figure out a way to use those bottle caps and make the piece work... I think it does....
