reworking...

I have finished two pieces last year that I was quite happy with and declared complete. I never posted them here as they were for a group exhibit originally, but that never happened. So I have had them pinned to my design wall all these months... a mistake probably as it gave me time to ruminate on them. And they started feeling incomplete.
I could not put my finger on what exactly was incomplete about them, but all of a sudden they started feeling
unfinished. And then it came to me! They didn't want to hang just simply from a bar in a sleeve, they wanted to be attached to a canvas! Yes! They did tell me so, well... not in so many words, but they did...
Here's how they looked the first time I finished them.
I ran to my local art store and bought gallery wrapped canvases. First I sponge painted them with an ecru color acrylic. Nah... didn't do a thing. Then I remembered the pattern paper scraps I saved from a long ago clothes making session. Decoupage! Now things were cooking... Here they are on my work table while being stitched and glued their decoupaged canvases. Here's another close up. And here they are finally finished for real this time! I think they look rather happy on their new canvases. They make me happy anyway...Zhenschina/Woman 1 Litzo/Face

So... am I the only crazy artist out there, who months later decides to rework their pieces? Please calm my fears and tell me you do it too!

I know that I certainly do the same thing!! Many times I will look back on pieces and say to myself, What was I thinking, that piece is not ready for prime time!!!! I think that it might be that over time our tastes and experience set changes especailly witha ll fot he new techniques being worked out and all of our exposure to the work of others . We see so very much and broaden our design horizons daily, that I think that tbis might be pretty normal!! Fret not Natalya!!!!

Love love love your new DVD! You ahve a wonderful presentation manner , so professional but very friendly!! Great job!!
Hugs!

I do that all the time. Carlos has been known to re-work a painting a decade or more after it was declared finished. No worries, you're normal!

I *love* the pieces on the collaged canvases. Nice job. :)

Adding the canvases makes all the difference in the wold. And no, you are not alone. Often, I put things away and then look back at them later with disgust (and then hide them once again), or I'll think I am finished with something and a few days later have it tell me I'm absolutely not finished.

I often set things aside, just looking, and finally later ocme up with a resolution. These look great. And oh yes, do come down to the Cape for tea!

I absolutely vacillate between "done" and "not yet", but I tend to stash things in the closet because I can't figure out how to rework them -- certainly not as brilliantly as you have done here. I LOVE the way these look!

Natalya,
These are very beautiful... almost haunting, like the lace is taking on the persona of the person who once wore it... lovely! And I love the collaged background idea... I may borrow that for the piece I'm working on... Thanks!
