thoughts on inspiration

What inspires an artist? Colors? Textures? Shapes? All of the above and more? YES!

Many things, thoughts and sights inspire me.. but lets get more specific. What are the details of what inspires me? One of my strongest inspirations are architectural details. Not just any architectural details, but romantic belle epoque details, art deco details. Add to that some peeling paint, worn steps, a bit of crumbling plaster, soft pastel colors, aged iron railings and fences and you have me at hello... Now sprinkle in some nostalgia for city I no longer live in, add a pinch of ethnic pride and you have my recipe for "my" art work.

A vignette of my inspiration:
What details, thoughts and feelings inspire you? What is in your artful recipe?

It's a wonderful recipe. :-) My inspiration tends to be a thought or emotion paired with some personal symbols and whatever colors are around me at the time.

I also love architecture but have trouble deciding how to translate what I see into a piece of textile art - I have hundreds of photos of old buildings like your pics here. Wish I could use them

i love your collection of photos, they are indeed inspiring.

I love learning about you in bits this way...mine? right now being such a new artist in the drawing area it's just about everything I see. I see it and say, that wants to be drawn! ;-)
