I am delighted to announce that my artwork "Specular Reflection" has been accepted into the exhibit that it was made for, "Reflections" by
Dinner@8 Artists, curated by Leslie Jamison and Jamie Fingal. The exhibit will premiere at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX from October 25 to November 2nd. The exhibit is sponsored by Havel's Scissors. I am honored to be among such a distinguished group of artists.
My artist statement for this piece is rather simple and short:
A Specular Reflection is a reflection from a smooth surface. Highrises in New York City offer quite a selection of such reflections on any day...
As you can imagine, my myriad of photographs of NYC came in handy for finding the subject matter for this artwork. Then all I had to do is dig into my stash of plastic recycling, which was recently amended by a very supportive fan (you know who you are - Sharon). Then I thoroughly enjoyed layering and adhering the plastics to form a base for some extensive machine stitching..
