journal quilt

With the cold weather here, we have been washing and drying a lot of sweaters around here. Which, due to the bright colors my girls wear, result in some very lovely dryer lint. I have been collecting it and here is the result in 49/52.I tore up some dark burgundish purple and mauvy pink lint and spread it on synthetic sparkly pink organza. Then I covered it up with layers of red and black tulle. I free-hand machine embroidered a flower and leaf pattern in a rayon and a silk thread over the whole thing and then added hand stitching with a hand-dyed variegated cotton thread (Oliver Twists). The result I guess you could call a study of textures... It is also sheer in some spots which of course is hard to see in the photo. Maybe tomorrow in daylight I'll try to take some sheer pictures.

I have been knee deep in kiddie costumes for the Russian school Christmas pageant, so not much art has gotten done. But I did get about two hours of work done on my pagan quilt this weekend, I'll share pictures later. Of course since I've had it hanging on my wall and staring at me for a while, it (the pagan quilt that is) has been suggesting new things that it might want done to it. That might mean that my original goal of finishing it before the new year may be in shambles...

This piece immediately captured my attention. I must admit to loving the lint colors, but the golden yellow for the primary stems is inspired. Very rich piece.

That's the nicest dryer lint I've ever seen. Your latest crimson little flower is beautiful too.
