in progress...

There has been lots of machine stitching, ripping and shredding in my studio lately. I am making quite a mess. There are stitch-able recyclables strewn all over the place. Things like plastic shopping bags, dryer sheets, color catcher sheets, painted packing papers, paper towels that were used to mop up colorful paint spills, netting from produce, are all being put good use. I have finished my machine stitching, now I am ripping away my paper guides, painting will commence shortly. Don't know about hand stitching yet....may become a time issue....
What am I doing you ask? A totem. My local art quilt group is having a special exhibit as part of an upcoming guild quilt show. We are all creating totems, fiber/fabric/textile totems, large totems, really large totems.....18" wide and 8' tall totems... Thus my hesitation with hand stitching. Here are some "in progress" detail shots. Hopefully soon I'll be ready to share the whole thing with you. Trying to beat the "Easter" clock here....

I haven't been at my machine in a while, but your stitches always draw me towards it.

I can't wait to see the whole piece. The detail shots are really intriguing.

Sounds very interesting, using all these recycable materials in a totem, through combining and sewing them all together - different structures and colours in a whole! I'm very curious about the result, which I don't doubt will be beautiful!:)
