40 and getting into the Christmas spirit

This weekend we got our Christmas tree, hopefully we picked a good one that will last long. Christmas lasts a long time around our house, we celebrate it it twice actually. Once on December 25th and then on January 7th. The Russian Orthodox Church calendar follows the old Julian calendar, so we're 13 days behind all the other Christians.. and our tree has to last till after the 7th.. Traditionally it should stay up until January 19th, the Teophany(Baptism) of our Lord, but usually ours is quite crispy way before, so we get it down much sooner than that. This Saturday we decorated the house while the tree thawed and Sunday was the perfect day to decorate the tree since it was so nasty outside. And today I am celebrating my 40th birthday! I've been looking forward to my 40's as many people have told me that it's the best decade... I cannot wait to see what it brings!

Happy Birthday!! I'm a couple of years into my 40s now, and I can say "come on in, the water's fine!" It's just as good as the thirties -- which I must say are a graet decade!

You Xmas decor is super cute. I love the little houses. They look a little bit like the Spanish Style bungalow I grew up in.

We keep our tree up until Three Kings Day as that's the tradition in germany. Ours is fake though, so really, we could have it up year round.

Happy Birthday! I'm also a couple of years into my 40s and it IS fine. 40 is the new 30 dontcha know!

I'm hoping to get our tree up on Wednesday (fake, I'm allergic to evergreens). We do a half Peruvian- half North American Christmas. It's fun to hear how other people celebrate.

Happy Birthday! I hope you'll have a wonderful day!
I have six more months to go until I reach 40 so I don't have a lot of advise to give but I've always felt that life gets better as I get older.

Happy Birthday! I've enjoyed looking at your earlier weekly journal quilts. I am particularly inspired by the hand stitching as I have been exploring that in my own work. My birthday is Christmas Eve--how do you like having your birthday in the midst of this busy season? I hope you are able to find some special time for yourself.

Happy Birthday, Natalya! I just turned 40 in October and I am looking forward to what lies ahead, as I am sure you are. Have a great Christmas.

Happy happy AND marry merry -- what could be better. When I was turning 40, a friend said "It was such a relief to be 40" -- she was right, and 50 is even better. The older I get, the happier I am. Who knew?

May blessings and merriment be yours, Natalya, and for your family as well.
