craft and art

For the craft portion of this post - I present to you the Snowflakes! Following Kristin's idea and simplifying it to suit two five year olds and two three year olds, I entertained four little girls and kept myself busier than expected. Everyone enjoyed the craft project and was happy with the results and today after school we'll be hanging them on the Christmas tree...

And now for the art portion - wrapper and coin....
My friend Vivien and I had another challenge, we started with these found objects. You can see Vivien's resulting artwork on her blog and here's mine. I am calling it "paper and coin" for lack of a better idea (maybe I should consult Vivien's daughter...) I painted a 6"x6" pre-stretched blank canvas, the wrapper and the coin with acrylic paint, then trapped the wrapper and coin between three layers of tulle (two white and one red), hand stitched with cotton variegated thread and then wrapped the tulle around the canvas. I'm really enjoying the fact that these challenges are producing such abstract results for me.

Cool challenge -- I like the idea of using unexpected items to jump start ideas.

We all love the snowflake fairies! Your age-appropriate adaptations are truly inspired. It's wonderful that the fairies look great whether they are made from paper doilies and pipe cleaners, or felt, wire and wooden beads. :-)

I really do like your piece. I'm glad you took a picture of the items before they became part of the piece; it's fun to see the "progression" of the items, for lack of a better word.

I love little hand-made ornaments like the one's you're making! I just got done hanging some on the tree that my grandma made, so they can become family heirlooms!

The challenges you and Vivien are doign look like a lot of fun. I'm so glad you're both posting your results. It's neat to see two different destinations from the same starting point.
