april fool...

My husband and I are april fools... we met on this day thirteen years ago, silly huh?

OK, so that title and the first sentence have nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of this post - because this post is about art...
And that picture (out of focus sorry) above is how this artwork started. Yep, you are looking at a piece of a copper coffee filter and green pipe cleaner. It's another challenge between my friend Vivien and I. I think that as I am typing this she's putting the finishing touches on her piece, so it'll up for viewing soon. But meanwhile here's my piece, it is that same piece of yellow vintage silk that I have been using in my journals this past month, painted, dryer sheets, painted, copper coffee filter and pipe cleaner, painted. It's all free-hand machine embroidered with silk and rayon black threads, a bit of hand stitching and some oilsticks to top things off. It measures 16 3/4"x 10 1/2" and I am calling it Закат/Zakat/Sunset... and here's a detail shot. It was a fun and unusual challenge for us both. Boy did I really hate that pipe cleaner... But I am quite happy with it now. Wait till you see Vivien's piece, talk about completely different. Beautiful... go check it out.

I almost didn't recognize the pipe cleaner at all. All that green would have stumped me.

Amazing what beauty you create out of two kinda ugly things. Esp the pipe cleaner. I don't think I know Vivien's link?

PS Lynn on her blog says she proposed to her husband on April fools day 23 years ago.

2 lovely finished items from a very uninspiring start, I did wonder what you would do with the pipe cleaner, well done Pippa

I never would have guessed that this piece originated with a coffee filter and green pipe cleaner. It's beautiful. I love the colors and the texture! Amazing!

I had to go back and find the pipe cleaner after reading Kristin's comment. I had a hard time finding it.

Great use of the pipe cleaner! Interesting how something we don't want to use will stretch our creativity... quite transcending the uninspiring start. Or maybe the gridded background of the first photo was misleading.
